WARNING: Flashing MeeGo to your N900 will permanently erase your settings and may cause damage to your device. This image is meant for experienced developers only. With the open image the battery management is not functional so you may cause damage to your device. We do not take any responsibility of the damage that may be caused to your device.

Preparations before flashing

For the installation process you need to get the flasher tool from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-dev-env-downloads.php

Get the MeeGo image and also the kernel by following the instructions from Meego images for N900 page. You can also create your own image. See creating arm image with MeeGo Image Creator for instructions.

  • Ensure that your battery is fully charged.
  • Unplug the charger and turn the device off.

Installing MeeGo image

1. Make sure your device is turned off and the battery is fully charged.

2. Remove the battery from the device.

3. Connect the device to computer with USB cable.

4. Next start the flasher software:

sudo flasher-3.5 -f -k <kernel_image> -r <meego.ubiimg>

5. Put the battery back to the device.

6. If the flasher does not recognize the device go back to step 2.

After the flashing is complete power off the device by removing the battery and go to step 7 in case you are not using the closed Nokia binaries.

7. (Optional: For image without closed components): You need to also disable watchdogs if you are not using the closed components, especially the Battery Management Entity (BME). This can be done similarly to above, except the flasher command is following:

sudo flasher-3.5 --enable-rd-mode --set-rd-flags=no-omap-wd,no-ext-wd

After these steps you can remove the USB cable and put the battery back to the device. The device should boot to xterm with MeeGo codedrop image.
