The Events team coordinates the organization MeeGo events and the presence of the MeeGo project in other events.

MeeGo Corporate Guidelines

Corporate sponsorships are welcomed as an opportunity for community growth, visibility, and the establishment of partnerships with businesses that look to support or utilize the development of the MeeGo project. With that said, there are a few things to consider when aligning a corporate sponsorship with your Local MeeGo Network or Regional Summit event.

Visual Guidance

• Logos should appear at the same size or in conjunction with the MeeGo brand or local lockup.
• MeeGo's collateral/brand should remain true to the MeeGo brand guidelines. It is however very appropriate to show the corporate sponsor's logo at the same size, or in conjunction with, the MeeGo local logo. For more information on MeeGo local assets, please see the below packages and their usage guidelines.
• Corporate sponsors should be provided ample brand presence in supporting event collateral to firmly establish their presence in the community event.

Naming and Logistics

• Please do not schedule local/regional events within one month [before or after] the date of a MeeGo Project event.
• Naming of the local event should incorporate the name of sponsors. For example, if CompanyX sponsored a Regional Summit, an appropriate name would be CompanyX's MeeGo Regional Summit. This will allow the sponsor to gain greater visibility among the community, and also clearly delineate that this local event is a corporate sponsored event, as opposed to a MeeGo project event.
• Do your best to highlight the corporate sponsor and their contribution at all times through the use of Web content, targeted mailers, any press releases, or supporting event content.
• The event should always clearly delineate that the corporate sponsor is not the owner of the MeeGo project, but a happy contributor towards its success.
• We recommend a strong collaboration be established between the corporate sponsor and the local event planning committee towards the creation of boilerplate messaging at various lengths [50, 80, and 100 words] for cohesive PR for the event.
• We recommend a weekly or bi-weekly short meeting with your sponsors and planning committee followed by meeting minutes, and assigned tasks.

Introduction

The information collected here is designed to assist you in organizing your local MeeGo event. Thank you for helping take our community one step towards greater visibility. In the MeeGo Local packages below, you will find various MeeGo Local collateral templates [badges, banners, email blasts, landing pages, logo lockups, way finding posters, speaker posters, and event agendas] to help you create your own local event, while still building equity in the MeeGo brand.Please take some time to read through this local event guideline document. Enclosed you will find proper usage guidelines for the MeeGo Local visual identity, voice, templates, available color palette, and event setup tips. Please help us bring further solidarity and community through these shared-use assets.

Local MeeGo Network Packet with AI/EPS/SVG Assets (33MB) This package contains editable design files to be used for the promotion of Local MeeGo Network events. Logo Lockups

MeeGo Regional Summit Editable Logo

The official MeeGo Network Meetup and Regional Summit lockups are displayed to the left. These assets are available for download in the above listed Local MeeGo Network and Regional Summit packages. Please do your best to always work within these guidelines to ensure that the MeeGo Local brand remain consistent and identifiable.

Usage Guidance

• Utilize the color palette of the MeeGo Local lockups included within the editable files.
• Stay within the pre-determined width of the lockup rectangle (artboard) within the editable files.
• Use the secondary-line in the lockup to display the city name/location and the date of your local event. Do not use this line for taglines, sentences, or any other non-specified usages.
• Do not reduce the size of the lockup to smaller than 2 inches wide in print formats, or 250px in onscreen formats.
• We encourage you to use the embedded Meegons [avatars]. Displayed are our collaborating Meegons and the werewolf Meegon.
• The lockups are to be used, without exception, only for local and regional MeeGo community events. They are not to be used in conjunction with sponsor logos, or as part of a large international event.
• We encourage the usage of the font DIN for the secondary [editable] location/date line. If you do not have access to DIN, please use Arial.

Unsuitable Modifications

Below are modifications of the MeeGo Local lockups that are NOT suitable for distribution. Unsuitable usages are not limited to those listed below, but serve as an example of what liberties NOT to take with the MeeGo Meetup and Summit visual systems. Do not use these visual effects with the lockups:

• color shift
• 3d altering
• skew/free transform
• banner effect
• placing a sponsor logo next to the lockup at the same visual hierarchy
• extending the rectangle to encompass multiple logos within the lockup
• altering the MeeGo logo in any way
• usage of fictitious locations/dates
• using colors that are outside of the MeeGo brand color palette

MeeGo Events Types

Local MeeGo Networks organize face to face meetings and other activities on the real ground. They bring what no online social network can provide: real handshakes, real kudos, real applause, real face to face chat. They are free as in beer and you might even get some real drinks for free as well! These networks can organize certain events and there are three separate event types described below.

• Local Network Meetups are small, personal events that happen on a regular basis and build the MeeGo community within your city.
• Regional MeeGo Summits are community-organized and self-funded micro-conferences, lasting a few days and drawing attendees from the immediate geographical area (e.g. Northern Europe or Western USA)
• International Events are the official, project-organized and funded MeeGo conferences, drawing participants from around the world.

Local Network Meetups

Local MeeGo Network Meetups are intended to happen on a regular basis, for the purpose of demonstrations, furthering the development of the MeeGo project, and community interaction. These Meetups are intended to be brief, lasting only a few hours, and to pull together a local development audience. Below are guidelines for organizing a Local Network Meetup.

Be predictable. Meetups thrive on participating members having a dependable date to plan for. An example would be a Meetup happening on every 3rd Thursday of each month. Establishing a dependable date is paramount to the success of these community-building interactions.

Naming the Network, and the meetups. To keep MeeGo community solidarity, MeeGo Network Meetups should use the following name syntax. Network Naming Syntax:

Meetup Communications

Do your best to disseminate Meetup meeting dates, topics, and requests, using mailing lists, Facebook, Diaspora, and Twitter. Below are the MeeGo Network guidelines, to help you manage your Meetup.

• Facebook page, use 'MeeGo CC' as the name for your RMN. CC is your country code. It is also advisable to use 'community' as the page format.
• For example: 'MeeGo FI', which in FB will eventually become: http://www.facebook.com/meegofi or http://www.facebook.com/meego-fi
• Diaspora* account, use 'MeeGo CC' as the name for your RMN. CC is your country code.
• For example: 'MeeGo FI', which in diaspora will become: meegofi@joindiaspora.com
• Twitter account; use 'MeeGo CC' as the name for your RMN. CC is your country code. For example, 'MeeGo FI', which in twitter will become: http://twitter.com/meegofi
• Mailing Lists should be used to reach out to your Network community. Some suggested services are www.freelists.org, and groups.google.com.
• IRC Channels should be used for real time discussions between Network members for the planning of Meetups. Please register for your network channel on the freenode IRC network, using the syntax #meego-region, such as #meego-oregon or #meego-fi

Holding Your Meetup

Here are a few steps for keeping your Meetup structured, or at least a place to start:

1. Establish a MeeGo Meetup Team
2. Establish organizing roles: communications/collateral, logistic planning, and on-site functions.
3. Establish Meetup cadence, such as the every 3rd Thursday, as in the example used earlier.
4. Funding, and how to handle simple items, such as collateral printing (if needed), refreshments, or food sourcing.

Regional MeeGo Summits

Regional MeeGo Summits are to be hosted once to twice a year, and will often serve as a more formal micro-conference, bridging the gap between the international events and the Local Meetups. MeeGo Summits can be hosted annually, should last a couple of days, and should attract participants from the host region and immediate surroundings. Further attendee geographical reach is limited to the international events in most cases. The main difference of this micro-conference and the international project conferences is that the Summits are hosted by the community entirely and are not in any way managed or planned by the MeeGo Project. Efforts should be made to message the Summits accordingly, to avoid any confusion whatsoever. Because organizing a Summit takes quite a bit more work than a Meetup, there is a suggested process for creating your successful Regional Summit.

Naming the Summit

To keep MeeGo community solidarity, MeeGo Summits should use the following name syntax.

Holding Your Summit

Here are a few steps to help you organize your regional Summit.

1. Establish a MeeGo Summit Team using your region’s Local MeeGo Network wiki. The suggested format is:

   Title:MeeGo Summit $REGION $YEAR(For example: MeeGo Summit FI 2011)
   
   Body: We are interested in organizing a Regional MeeGo Summit in $REGION. If you are interested in attending, please respond.
   If you are interested in serving as part of the Summit Team, please respond with your contact information. 
   

2. Hold your first meeting to establish roles and a Summit Plan. You will likely want to cover the following topics: team members, Summit logistics, funding, speakers, marketing/communications, partners/sponsors, and volunteer participation funnels.
3. Add a new wiki page for your summit to the MeeGo wiki: wiki.meego.com/Local MeeGo Networks/Regional MeeGo Summitsd.
4. Add your Summit to the Future MeeGo Summits page: wiki.meego.com/Local MeeGo Networks/Regional MeeGo Summits#Future MeeGo Summits
   1. Initially, add your Summit with the suffix ‘Candidate’.
   2. Once your Summit is confirmed, change its name to have a prefix of ‘RMS’ in the title and remove the previous stated suffix.
5. During and after the conference, post Summit BKMs (Best-Known-Methods) for the community to learn from.
6. After the Summit, move your Summit wiki page to the wiki’s archives section.

International Events

The MeeGo Project is solely responsible for the creation, planning, and marketing of international MeeGo events. An example of an international MeeGo event would be the Dublin 2010 event and the upcoming MeeGo San Francisco 2011 event. This guide is NOT intended for the creation of these international events. Instead, this mention is made to serve as a point of reference for the two event types and the distinct differences between the local events and the international events. Listed below are event types which the community should organize, and this reference guide and assets are intended to aid in the planning of them.

If you have further questions or would like advice on setting up your event, please come to the bi-weekly MeeGo Events meeting. They will be held on the #meego-meeting IRC starting Tuesday January 25th , 2011, 17:00UTC, 9:00PST.

Note that having a committed contact with the organization (you?) will help a lot addressing non-evident cases.
