'''DRAFT UNDER DISCUSSION'''

Moved to a subpage: [[Forum/Guidelines]]

The MeeGo community is a working community. Sure, we like to have fun but we also like the communications to run smoothly. To that end here are some guidelines.
+
-

+
-
* '''Do have integrity'''
+
-
There’s only one of you, so you only need one account, right? Multiple accounts will be deleted.
+
-

+
-
* '''Do Contribute'''
+
-
Got something interesting to add to a conversation or a question about something? don't just sit there, jump in!
+
-

+
-
* '''Do thank people for useful posts'''
+
-
The button is there for a reason, and everyone likes to be thanked. Yes you do too, you know you do!
+
-

+
-
* '''Do be patient with others'''
+
-
We have both techies and non-techies here and we both know we don't exactly speak the same language at all times.
+
-

+
-
* '''Do search before you post'''
+
-
I have this friend named Google who knows a lot of stuff so you might want to try asking him first. Then why not search the forum, maybe someone else has already asked your question?
+
-

+
-
* '''Keep it clean'''
+
-
Some people browse MeeGo.org from work. Would you want your boss to see you looking at that stuff?
+
-

+
-
* '''Keep it legal'''
+
-
Please don't post links to bootleg software or any other illegal content. You don't want to pay for expensive lawyers.
+
-

+
-
* '''Don’t be creepy'''
+
-
You know the guy. Don't be that guy.
+
-

+
-
* '''Don’t be spammy'''
+
-
Nobody likes spam. We don't want to see your "marketing messages", and we don't want you to wire us money from your Nigerian bank.
+
-

+
-
* '''Don’t be a flamer'''
+
-
If you wouldn’t like that said about your mother, neither will the other guy.
+
-

+
-
* '''The mods Rule'''
+
-
Ultimately, the moderators and admins reserve the right to remove your posts or even your account if its felt to be unhelpful for the MeeGo endeavor or community.
+
-

+
-
We also have some fancy legal stuff on our [http://meego.com/about/terms-service Terms of Service] page that covers a few other things you might want to know.

Engine

The MeeGo forum engine was agreed to be vBulletin. See the Forum_/_Talk wiki page and the post communicating the decision.

URL

  • forum.meego.com seems to be the most popular vote in the thread discussing this on meego-community.

Structure

DRAFT UNDER DISCUSSION

We all agree on these basic principles:

  1. Start simple and growing organically based on concrete needs.
  2. Avoid forum / mailing list duplication to cover the same purpose.

Structure:

  • General: MeeGo related topics not classified in a specific subforum.
  • Application Developer Support: Offer/get help dealing with application developer tools and APIs.
  • Community Matters: Discussion about infrastructure, processes, marketing and events for the MeeGo project, issues and suggestions about the website, community meet-ups, and community building.
  • Off-topic: Totally unrelated but still worth discussing between ameegos.

Candidates

  • Localization - if the L10n mailing list decides to move here. Otherwise let's avoid duplication.
  • Design - If there is interest and critical mass.
  • Using MeeGo - by the time a release for end users is offered. Probably better if having Netbook and Handset subforums since the first day?
  • Devices - has the risk of being a can of worms & requires further discussion. Will also depend on the take of the MeeGo device vendors, the amount of devices, the differences between them... Not really needed before first devices are approaching the shops.
