Naming policy

Consistent names enables people around the world to find us more easily. Therefore it is essentially important to follow the naming policy below.

All regional RMNs' should be named after following rule:

• 'MeeGo Network <Region>'. For example: MeeGo Network Finland

Domain names

Domain names should be as follows:

• http://meegonetwork.CC (where CC is your country code).
  • For example: http://meegonetwork.fi

If the local MeeGo networks have a need for domain, it should be as a sub-domain:

• Location MeeGo Network -> http://location.meegonetwork.CC where 'location' is your city/town/area and 'CC' your country code.
  • For example: 'Tampere Meego Network' -> http://tampere.meegonetwork.fi

Also Summits can use the same domain:

• Use sub-domain: http://summit.meegonetwork.CC where 'CC' is your country code.
  • For example 'MeeGo Summit FI' is: http://summit.meegonetwork.fi

Social Media

• Facebook page, use 'MeeGo CC' as the name for your RMN. CC is your country code. Furthermore, it is advisable to use 'community' as the page format.
  • For example: 'MeeGo FI', which in FB will eventually become: http://www.facebook.com/meegofi or http://www.facebook.com/meego-fi
• Diaspora* account, use 'MeeGo CC' as the name for your RMN. CC is your country code.
  • For example: 'MeeGo FI', which in diaspora will become: meegofi@joindiaspora.com
• Twitter account, use 'Meego CC' as the name for your RMN. CC is your country code.
  • For example: 'MeeGo FI', which in twitter will become: http://twitter.com/meegofi

You probably get the general idea from the above examples. If for some reason you can not follow the examples in other social media accounts or pages, you can use the full name (Location MeeGo Network) or include a hyphen (meego-CC). If that does not help you, discuss the issue with the community at channel #meego.

IRC channels

IRC channel for the RMN should be named according to the following logic:

• '#meego-CC' (where CC is your country code).
  • For example: MeeGo Network Finland -> #meego-fi

Setting up your RMN resources

One of the most critical tasks in running RMN successfully is to ensure it is easy for people to (a) get involved and (b) communicate with each other. This requires a number of resources.

Every RMN should have the following resources set up:

Homepage

When starting your RMN, we recommend you create a page on wiki.meego.com/Regional/MeeGo_Networks which can act as your homepage. See the excellent MeeGo Network Finland page for an example.

The aim of the wiki is to store details about your RMN and the different aspects of the commuity. Feel free to add a number of pages to spread your content out.

Your wiki homepage should have the following details:

• Introduction - an introduction to the group, what you want to do, what you want to achieve and other things.
• Resources - provide details of how new members can join the Mailing List, IRC channel etc.
• Online Meetings - you should have a page that gives details of the next online IRC meeting. This page should be used to say when the next meeting is, where it is held (which IRC channel) and what the agenda is.

Mailing List

There's a lot of services which you can use. Below is just a few examples. Add the one your RMN is using.

• http://www.freelists.org/ - FreeLists provides free mailing list hosting to groups whose topics are related to technology, computers, communications, medicine, astronomy, etc.
• http://groups.google.com/ - Searchable archive of more than 700 million Usenet postings from a period of more than 20 years.
• http://groups.yahoo.com/ - Yahoo Groups. Free mailing list hosting, not limited to mailing list functionality. Polls, calenders,databases,photoalbums and lab with more and more new stuff.

IRC channel

IRC is a great way for the team to have real-time discussions about the group. You should register a channel on the freenode IRC network:

• Register your nickname on freenode
• Create the channel (named according to the channel naming guidelines)
• Please ensure that channels coordination is made as easy as possible.

Should we have a portal?

When your RMN is fully active and up and running, it may make sense to move away from the wiki and set up a dedicated website. See Portal for details on hosting options and how to get started. Only fully active RMNs are recommended to set up a dedicated website - new RMNs should use wiki.meego.com until fully up and running.
