Proposal for a Notebook Profile working group

This is a request to the Technical Steering Group to approve the creation of a Notebook Profile working group. There is no procedure defined but we can improvise with some common sense.

There are over 160M notebooks shipping per year. This present solid market opportunity for MeeGo.

To discuss and plan the MeeGo developer offering and support, subscribe to the MeeGo SDK mailing list: http://lists.meego.com/listinfo/meego-sdk. You can also subscribe from your account page on meego.com.

Mission

The Notebook Profile working group shall provide a bi-directional community channel to help the creation of MeeGo profile for notebooks.

Areas

The main areas within the scope of the working group are (in no particular order):

  • APIs: Make sure that developers have a set of consistent/coherent user interface APIs for notebooks.

The application development tool framework is based on QT. QT apps developed will work across Desktop Profile, Notebook Profile, and Slate Profile.

MeeGo members interested in taking an active role in this working group. Please detail your interests and what you can contribute to the group:

DeviceVM will contribute several engineers to support the Notebook Profile working group, and will support OEM integration of MeeGo-Notebook. DeviceVM's current desktop customers include Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, Sony, etc.. DeviceVM will be able to enable over 100M of MeeGo-Notebook in the coming year.

MeeGo device proliferation is critical to accelerate app developer interest.
