Proposal for a Slate Profile working group

This is a request to the Technical Steering Group to approve the creation of a Slate Profile working group. There is no procedure defined but we can improvise with some common sense.

Slate is an emerging growth segment. This presents solid market opportunity for MeeGo.

Mission

The Slate Profile working group shall provide a bi-directional community channel to help the creation of MeeGo profile for slates.

Areas

The main areas within the scope of the working group are (in no particular order):

• APIs: Make sure that developers have a set of consistent/coherent user interface APIs for slates.

QT apps developed will work across Desktop Profile, Notebook Profile, and Slate Profile.

MeeGo members interested in taking an active role in this working group. Please detail your interests and what you can contribute to the group:

DeviceVM will contribute several engineers to support the Slate Profile working group, and will support OEM integration of MeeGo-Slate. DeviceVM supports Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, LG, and other touch-friendly tablet netbooks today. DeviceVM will be able to enable millions of MeeGo-Slate in the coming year.

MeeGo device proliferation is critical to accelerate app developer interest.
