This is a community draft roadmap towards MeeGo 1.4

Starting to outline the requirements for a potential 1.4 system.

We currently have:

  • Tablet UX on the Intel side.
  • N900-CE on the ARM side.
  • Harmattan on the Nokia N9 running Qt Components.

By the time 1.4 comes out, it would be beneficial to have cross UX compatibility so that core applications can be ported between. We have seen Quim Gil taking extra effort to try and ensure Miniature is cross compatible and curing the bugs and observations noted here will be important in this goal.

  • Included Components
    • Qt5
    • Wayland
      • what we want to get from Wayland that X doesn't give us
      • what we are willing to give up
      • what bad things in X we are happy to see gone
    • Qt Components
    • Qt Quick
    • Window Manager/UX front end
      • KDE Plasma Active?
    • Principle components sourced from existing or "best in class"
      • Launcher
      • Live widgets
      • Clock
      • Calendar
      • Tasks
      • Weather
        • Potentially meecast derivative
      • Contacts/Messaging
        • peregrine
      • Dialer/Phone
        • meego qml dialer
      • Media
      • Calculator

Carsten has raised the point about a social contract to guide this work.

The easy components are to be those already roadmapped by corporation, Nokia is working towards Qt5 for instance. Pulling this together into a compelling UX front end is going to take much more work. The existing N900-CE uses older MTF based window manager, we should be working towards an open WM to replace this.
