Francesco Baldassari, Software Developer ARCES - The Advanced Research Center on Electronic Systems for Information and Communication Technologies (A Department of University of Bologna - Italy)

Francesco Baldassarri (born March 26, 1985) is actually student in Computer Science Engineering at University of Bologna. His main areas of interest are open-source software and OS (beginning since 2000 with the study and knowledge of Linux/Unix environment like MacOS, Slackware, Debian and Ubuntu), network protocols (like TCP performances), embedded devices and mobile handsets technology. In particular he has focused his attention on Maemo and Meego Linux-based mobile operative systems becoming an active member of the developers community and an italian ambassador.

He is actually cooperating with the DEIS (Departments of Eletronics, Computers and Systems Science of University of Bologna) on Delay-/Disruption- Tolerant Networking (DTN***) projects. He is also member of Free Software Foundation and of LibrePlanet (founded by GNU project father Richard Stallman).

In October 2010 he starts to organize the first conference dedicated to MeeGo, the MeeGo Italian Day 2011, a one-day free event focused on the MeeGo open-source linux-based OS and Qt environment. This conference has occurred in March 2010, had 285 attendees and was sponsored by Intel Corporation Italy and organized with the collaboration of University of Bologna. This conference was rather an occasion to organize an Italian MeeGo Network with a group of MeeGo/Maemo users, developers and webmasters. Francesco Baldassarri is the Community Manager of the MeeGo Network Italy.

Finally he is working on a customized live version of Trisquel/Ubuntu containing a lot of pre-installed tools for computer science developers, engineers, testers and debuggers.

      • DTN has a lot of application areas (military, neural/sensors network, space research, etc), but in particular porting it to Maemo/Meego, in telecommunication wireless mobile world, has as goal to reduce the costs of implementation of this technology from big research centers to costumer level.
