Hi there, I work as MeeGo advocate for Nokia. What went well in the Community Office during 1.1:

These are my MeeGo related goals:
-
* The MeeGo Conference organization! Tangible results in the call for participation and the registration. All big items are solved by now.
+
* '''Great MeeGo compatible product from Nokia contributing to the success of Qt and MeeGo''': I'm the main link between the Harmattan program developing this product and the MeeGo community, helping on syncing Harmattan open source and community activities with MeeGo (mainly apps and device seeding), and contributing to an appealing and MeeGo friendly marketing plan.
-
* Consolidation of scope and roles in the CO: Dawn @ community management, Quim @ marketing.
+
* '''Fully functional [[ARM/N900/DeveloperEdition|MeeGo Developer Edition for the N900]] and whatever Nokia hardware comes next''': helping with the plans, the open development & communication and the syncing with the Harmattan program and related Nokia teams. I need to start regular testing but there are so many things to test these days...
-
* Specialized community channels have helped getting more signal vs noise ratio and collaboration.0.
+
-
* I'm personally happy about the Marketing plan.
+
-
* 1.1 release was a MeeGo coordinated team effort - with rough edges but much more complex than 1.

In full disclosure, I'm also putting (a lot of) my time pushing these lousy ideas into concrete plans:
 +
* Getting the open source [http://www.phonegap.com/ PhoneGap] HTML5 framework to support MeeGo/Harmattan, probably through Qt Quick (getting a renewed Symbian support ''for free''). I'm currently trying to connect the dots and have Nokia supporting Nitobi somehow in this effort.
 +
* Helping the Wikimedia Foundation creating a [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Projects/App_Features_%26_Roadmap Wikipedia app based on a generic "HTML5" piece of source code] that could be easily customized for MeeGo/Harmattan, Symbian... and the rest of mobile platforms too - including at some extent the silent giant Series 40. You can find me in the #wikimedia-mobile IRC channel & the mobile-l, mobile-feedback-l and foundation-l mailing lists there.
 +
* Someone recently said that it would be nice to have [http://identi.ca/ Identi.ca] accounts integration in MeeGo/Harmattan and I thought it was a nice idea to pursue. An identi.ca app could come out of this. If you are interested, contact me.

If you have an interesting open source project that could end up in the Ovi store and you need some help from Nokia, I should be a good contact for you.

Let's blame the neighbors first  ;)
+
-
* The OSU server ongoing migration tasking so long stopping forum server upgrade, social news, community OBS, Extras...
+
-
* TSG having bottlenecks, working groups still not created - community problems due to this.
+
-
* Program Office still quite closed, meego-pm not useful yet, roadmapping process, architecture process, UX process... difficult to work openly on items that are related with these teams e.g 1.1 release and 1.2 plans.
+
-
* Trademark and compliance are still open, and this has caused problems with neighbor open source projects and some acid in the community.
+
-

+
-
Then ourselves:
+
-
* Backlog stagnant? It doesn't reflect what are we doing every day.
+
-
* Lack of reporting - difficult to discern when a task is not progressing or the progress not being reported.
+
-
* It feels like we could be doing better engaging more people in the CO activities. Missing more independents owning tasks effectively. Missing more employees of more companies getting involved.
+
-
* Big progress compared to 1.0, but we still spend too much time discussing on the surface - which takes time and attention from the collaboration and engagement in more important topics.
+
-
* Dawn has done a great job reminding people that "community" is everybody but still the idea of "the community vs Intel/Nokia" seems to be still prevalent in many teams and areas.
+
-
* Disconnect or not clear connection between CO plans and budget/funding may limit our activities.

1.2
+
-
* Community processes: openness is our most complex problem both for efficient development and marketing. MeeGo needs to excel in order to to succeed. How can the CO help the rest of the project?
+
-
* Iron out the CO process with community management / marketing backlogs - or how we organize this.
+
-
* Iron out Events process - Amy has done lots but it's still quite ad hoc and linked to Intel/Nokia routines.
+
-
* Consolidation of the Media Team: Jennifer Cloer (LF), Suzy Ramirez (Intel), Jennifer Lyons (Nokia) + extended media team to report what is going on in the community channels.

Hi there, I work as MeeGo advocate for Nokia. You can follow my activity in identi.ca, Twitter and my (slightly outdated) blog. I'm also following the meego-community, meego-events, meego-handset, meego-sdk and meego-dev mailing lists, plus the #meego and #meego-arm chat rooms. Feedback in any of these channels is welcome!

These are my MeeGo related goals:

  • Great MeeGo compatible product from Nokia contributing to the success of Qt and MeeGo: I'm the main link between the Harmattan program developing this product and the MeeGo community, helping on syncing Harmattan open source and community activities with MeeGo (mainly apps and device seeding), and contributing to an appealing and MeeGo friendly marketing plan.
  • Fully functional MeeGo Developer Edition for the N900 and whatever Nokia hardware comes next: helping with the plans, the open development & communication and the syncing with the Harmattan program and related Nokia teams. I need to start regular testing but there are so many things to test these days...

In full disclosure, I'm also putting (a lot of) my time pushing these lousy ideas into concrete plans:

  • Getting the open source PhoneGap HTML5 framework to support MeeGo/Harmattan, probably through Qt Quick (getting a renewed Symbian support for free). I'm currently trying to connect the dots and have Nokia supporting Nitobi somehow in this effort.
  • Helping the Wikimedia Foundation creating a Wikipedia app based on a generic "HTML5" piece of source code that could be easily customized for MeeGo/Harmattan, Symbian... and the rest of mobile platforms too - including at some extent the silent giant Series 40. You can find me in the #wikimedia-mobile IRC channel & the mobile-l, mobile-feedback-l and foundation-l mailing lists there.
  • Someone recently said that it would be nice to have Identi.ca accounts integration in MeeGo/Harmattan and I thought it was a nice idea to pursue. An identi.ca app could come out of this. If you are interested, contact me.

If you have an interesting open source project that could end up in the Ovi store and you need some help from Nokia, I should be a good contact for you.
