Wiki gardening

Wiki maintenance works best with an active team working to ensure that a high quality level is maintained.

Wiki gardening involved pruning pages that get too bushy, merging pages that are very similar, breaking longer pages into multiple independent pages, organising the wiki according to categories, removing any weeks that get introduced into the wiki, either well-meaning users creating page stubs, or spammers destroying our content for their own internet search algorithm corruption purposes.

By maintaining the quality of the wiki, we are allowing it to grow in a healthy way, and flourish into the excellent resource it can be.

Gardening activities

The following gardening activities need no special permissions, beyond being registered on the wiki:

• Editing pages for quality
• Marking a page for deletion by adding it to the "Die die die" category
• Moving a page to a different name, and keeping a redirect from the original URL
• Using "What links here", updating all pages which refer to the old page, after moving it
• Policing various wiki cruft, including double redirects, orphaned pages and broken redirects
• Organising the wiki by the creation of useful portal pages, list pages and the use of categories

The following gardening activites require sysop permissions:

• Deleting pages
• Reverting spam edits
• Protecting pages from edits
• Granting extra permissions to gardeners
